Home. Sweet home.
We are not used to staying at home. But maybe this is our chance to unwind from the busy life we’ve been having – go to work, give 100%, progress, go here, go there, buy stuff, make money, workout, learn new things, have family, take care of the kids, meet people, go partying, travel, aim for rising, aim for the manager, start a business.
Yes, this WAS our life. In contrast to what we’ve been doing for the past years… staying at home seems boring and even a waste of time. Dear friends, let’s make a promise to ourselves and make time to improve and protect our health while we’re at home. Also, make time for just YOU!
It’s YOU time, and it will be amazing! We promise.
So let’s start the day with…
#1 Hot lemon water before breakfast
Our beloved beautician Olga Lelekova starts her day with a glass of hot water with squeezed lemon juice. Why? Because it has numerous anti-inflammatory benefits:
- Improves digestion;
- Enriches the body with electrolytes, thus hydrates each cell;
- Improves skin;
- Helps the liver to recover and cleanse;
- Gives the body Vitamin C;
- Lowers blood pressure;
- Allows for better breath;
- Supports weight loss.
#2 Ginger and turmeric
Both are great anti-inflammatory herbs because of the heat they generate. Their natural hotness and chilliness help the immune system to activate and eliminate ‘the bad guys.’
- Ginger is one of the superfoods that keep inflammation away. Whenever you feel any health discomfort, get a ginger root and soak it in freshly boiled water – it will release its miracles. Drink it in small sips and feel the hot sensation. The discomfort will go away in a few days.
- Turmeric is mainly used in cooking, but you can also use it for tea. Boil water and then add to it one or two teaspoons of turmeric ground powder. Leave it for 10 minutes, and then add honey, lemon, or whatever you’d like. The turmeric powder has robust anti-inflammatory qualities, and it’s a great way to keep you healthy at home.
#3 Take your probiotics
We usually take probiotics when we undergo antibiotic therapy or if we have bowel problems. We always advise having good probiotics handy for prevention. They enrich your gut flora with good bacteria that strengthen your whole immune system.
Health and happiness start from the gut – so take care of it and drink plenty of good bacteria. Another way to improve your gut flora is by consuming:
- Yogurt with lactobacillus bacteria;
- Fermented cheese and milk (kefir);
- Sauerkraut (fermented cabbage by lactobacillus);
- Tempeh (fermented soybeans);
- Kimchi (Korean fermented cabbage);
- Miso (Japanese seasoning);
- Kombucha (fermented tea);
- Pickles (homemade);
- Buttermilk;
- Natto (fermented soybeans).
#4 Eat more healthy fats and protein
Since we are all at home, we don’t need much energy for our daily activities. This means that all carbs that we consume might be stored as fat. This is why when we have limited physical activity, and we experience less stress – the best way to stay healthy and with a good weight is to consume fewer carbs, more healthy fats, and more protein.
What we all notice now:
People rush into the stores to buy pasta, bread, rice, lentils, peas, beans.
And toilet paper. Lots of toilet paper.That’s a big NO!
We agree these foods have extended expiration dates. Probably you consume them because you want to stay home and avoid going to the groceries for a long time. Yes, we get it. Remember that this strategy won’t help you get the immune-boosting nutrients to keep you healthy at home. If you want to stay at home longer, use the delivery option instead.
The way to activate your metabolism is by eating healthy fats, tons of veggies, some fruits in the morning, and lean protein. More about the topic we explain in our article about the Keto diet. Very soon, we’ll introduce you to the idea of Intermittent Fasting – it’s perfect for all of us who stay at home.
