Biorevitalization vs. Profhilo vs. Mesotherapy: Which One is the Right for You?

Profhilo vs Biorevitalization

How often do you see biorevitalization, Profhilo and Mesotherapy being mentioned interchangeably? Biorevitalization is a broad category of pure hyaluronic acid injections aimed at hydration and overall skin health. Profhilo is one specific branded product within that category, built around a hybrid form of hyaluronic acid designed to spread further and address skin firmness and moisture. Mesotherapy is a delivery technique, not a fixed formula. It can involve hyaluronic acid, vitamins, or a mix of other ingredients, which is exactly why its results vary so much from one clinic to the next.

With this article we’ll tackle what exactly these treatments are and when you might need them.

What are Biorevitalization, Profhilo, and Mesotherapy?

Biorevitalization refers to injecting pure, non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid into the skin to restore hydration and improve its overall condition. It’s less about targeting one specific problem and more about giving tired, dehydrated skin a general reset.

Profhilo is a named product (not a category) made from a hybrid complex of high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, processed without the chemical cross-linking agents used in traditional dermal fillers. Because of how it’s manufactured, it spreads more widely under the skin once injected, which is why it’s typically given at just five points per side of the face rather than the dense grid used for other injectables.

Mesotherapy is best understood as a technique rather than a treatment. It involves injecting a “cocktail” often of hyaluronic acid combined with vitamins, minerals, or amino acids, across a wide grid of superficial micro-injections. What’s actually in that cocktail differs enormously between clinics, which is the main reason mesotherapy is harder to evaluate than the other two.

What Each Term Actually Means
Term What It Is Typical Ingredients
Biorevitalization A broad category of treatment using pure hyaluronic acid injections to restore hydration and overall skin health Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, sometimes with amino acids or vitamins
Profhilo One specific branded product — a hybrid complex of hyaluronic acid designed for firmness and skin quality, not just hydration 64mg hyaluronic acid per 2ml (high- and low-molecular-weight combined)
Mesotherapy An injection technique, not a fixed formula — results depend entirely on what’s mixed into the injection Varies widely: hyaluronic acid, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, or other actives

In short: Profhilo could be described as one specific way of doing biorevitalization, while mesotherapy is a much broader technique that may or may not involve hyaluronic acid at all.

How does each one work in the skin?

Biorevitalization has a pure hyaluronic acid as base and it works simply: it binds water molecules in the skin, which is what gives it that hydration boost. It also has a mild, temporary effect on fibroblast activity (the cells responsible for producing collagen) though this effect doesn’t last long, since unlinked hyaluronic acid breaks down fairly quickly in the body.

Profhilo works on the same basic hyaluronic acid principle, but its hybrid structure is designed to resist that breakdown for longer and spread more broadly beneath the skin. Laboratory studies suggest this can stimulate fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin, which is the proposed reason behind its effect on skin firmness. It’s worth being precise here: this mechanism is well documented in lab and reconstructed-skin studies, but that’s a different thing from proof of dramatic collagen rebuilding in everyday clinical use.

Mesotherapy’s effect depends entirely on the formulation used. If the mixture is mostly hyaluronic acid, the mechanism is similar to biorevitalization. If it leans more on vitamins or other actives, the effect is more about surface-level nourishment and an immediate brightening, plus some benefit from the mechanical stimulation of the injections themselves.

What does the evidence show?

Not all three treatments are backed by the same quality of evidence, and it’s worth knowing that before you book anything.

Biorevitalization hyaluronic acid injections have the most consistent supporting evidence of the three. Multiple studies show improvements in hydration, elasticity, and texture, though researchers studying this area still call for larger, better-controlled trials.

Profhilo has genuinely promising data, but it comes with real caveats worth knowing. The most comprehensive review to date covered nine studies and 278 participants, and found improvements in hydration, elasticity, and skin laxity. However, six of those nine studies had fewer than 30 participants, most were single-center and not randomized, and several of the researchers involved were affiliated with the manufacturer. A separate study comparing Profhilo directly against another hyaluronic acid skin booster found no significant difference between them, which means the evidence doesn’t yet support claims that Profhilo outperforms other well-formulated HA treatments, even though it’s a solid option in its own right.

Mesotherapy has the weakest evidence of the three, simply because it isn’t one standardized treatment. Reviews from plastic surgery associations have found the evidence inconsistent, with some studies showing benefit and others showing no measurable change at all. That’s largely because “mesotherapy” can mean completely different formulations from one clinic to the next.

This means that clearly identified, well-formulated hyaluronic acid injection has the strongest evidence behind it, Profhilo is a promising but not proven-superior option, and mesotherapy’s value depends entirely on knowing exactly what’s being injected.

Which one should you choose?

If your skin feels dull, tired, or dehydrated and you want a quick refresh, a mesotherapy session with a clearly identified formulation (biorevitalization treatment) will usually deliver that surface-level glow fairly quickly.

If you’re noticing general dryness and early signs of aging but nothing structural yet, biorevitalization with pure hyaluronic acid is a reasonable, well-supported starting point.

If your main concern is skin laxity (crepiness, looseness, or a loss of bounce, particularly around the lower face and neck) Profhilo is built specifically for that and is the more targeted option of the three.

“Patients often come in asking for ‘the one that works best,’ but that’s the wrong question,” says Dr. Ludmyla Yaghorova. “The right question is what your skin actually needs right now. Someone with early dehydration doesn’t need the same treatment as someone dealing with genuine skin laxity. Giving everyone the same injectable regardless of that difference is how people end up disappointed with a perfectly good treatment.”

Is it safe? What to ask before you book

All three treatments involve injections, so the usual precautions apply: expect some redness, swelling, or mild bruising in the days after, and make sure your provider knows your full medical history first. These treatments generally aren’t recommended if you have active skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area, or if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.

Mesotherapy carries an extra consideration worth being direct about: because the injected formula can vary so much, you genuinely cannot assess the risk without knowing exactly what’s in it. Before any mesotherapy session, it’s worth asking your provider for the exact product name, its full ingredient list, and whether it’s licensed for the intended use.

Frequently asked questions

Is Profhilo the same as Biorevitalization?
Not exactly. Profhilo is one specific branded product that falls under the broader biorevitalization category. Biorevitalization as the general approach, and Profhilo as one particular way of delivering it.

Which lasts longer, Profhilo or Mesotherapy?
Profhilo’s effects tend to last longer, generally cited around six months, because of how its hybrid formula resists breaking down. Mesotherapy typically needs more frequent sessions to maintain results, since it depends on the specific formulation used.

Can these treatments be combined?
Yes, it’s common for a course of mesotherapy or biorevitalization to be used for general skin nourishment, with Profhilo layered in separately to address structural laxity. Your specialist can advise on sequencing based on your specific concerns.

Do these treatments hurt?
Most people describe mild discomfort rather than real pain like a slight stinging or pressure sensation during injection. Profhilo’s protocol uses fewer injection points, which some patients find more comfortable than the denser grid used in mesotherapy.
