CO2 Laser Fractional Resurfacing is one of the best ways to renew your skin. It literally destroys the upper layer of your skin and stimulates new collagen production. After the recovery the results are more impressive than expected.
If you’re looking for a treatment which can remove acne, scars, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, warts or fine lines – CO2 Laser is a great choice.
There are some things you must know before you go for it. Although the treatment is non-invasive it carries some specifics. So let’s see together what is so special about it.
#1 The best time to do CO2 is… autumn and winter
CO2 Laser is not a close friend with sunlight. As any laser this one requires you to limit sun exposure and use high SPF for protection.
The reason: CO2 Laser damages your skin in order to form a brand new healthy skin. Additional burning such as sunlight burn can cause complications. This may lead to unwanted side effects:
- Prolonged recovery;
- Skin damage;
- Inflammation.
We recommend you to choose colder months for your Laser Facials. Now is the best time to do it!
#2 It’s suitable for all skin conditions – normal, dry, oily, mixed
Resurfacing laser treats many conditions. As we already mentioned, it’s a great solution for two completely opposite conditions: acne and wrinkles. Oily skin is usually prone to acne. Wrinkles on the other hand are caused by dehydration and low levels of hyaluronic acid and collagen.
The reason: CO2 restructures the skin. Any damage causes the body to form a new tissue. CO2 damages the skin and stimulates collagen production. This leads to increased tissue recovery.
The same analogy comes with muscle training (weight training): when you lift heavy the muscles’ tissue breaks and destroys. Then comes the muscle sore but at the end of the day the muscle becomes stronger and healthier.
#3 Dark skins should stay away from CO2 Laser
Resurfacing laser may be even dangerous to dark skin types. The best way to determine whether you’re a good candidate for the treatment is to consult a professionalist.
Here at 7 Derma you can book a FREE consultation and talk to well trained professionals with more than 15 years of experience.
Usually we recommend the treatment only to patients with lighter skin. Asian skin types may also be good candidates.
#4 Medications and some conditions can influence the success of the treatment
Always share with your doctor if you’re taking any medications or have some kind of conditions. In some cases CO2 may not be suitable for you if you:
- Get cold sores or fever blisters around your mouth – the laser can activate breakouts.
- Are taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or vitamin E – you should stop them 2 weeks prior the treatment, as they slow down recovery.
- Are smoking – we recommend quitting smoking 2 weeks before and after the treatment. Smoking can cause further inflammation.
- Have diabetes – it’s absolutely not a treatment for you as skin damage may not heal for the expected period of 10-21 days.
Always be very honest with your doctor and share anything that may cause complications.
#5 For best results you should do multiple sessions
One session may give you the results you’ve been looking for. Nonetheless the recommended amount of sessions for CO2 is 3-6 sessions with 4-8 weeks rest period. These few sessions will restructure your skin completely and will give you long lasting results.
- Scar healing and removal – up to 6 sessions.
- Skin resurfacing – up to 3 sessions.
The results are really worth it!
#6 Great results depend on your practitioner’s skills
Always choose professionals with experience in working with CO2 Laser. This procedure requires great knowledge and any wrong action or ignorance can lead to severe damage.
We recommend you to choose your clinic and practitioner carefully. Don’t just look for the best deal, but also research the specialist who will do it for you. Talk to them, ask questions, look for recommendations from close ones or opinions of online users. Do your homework!
